I chose the moth to illustrate perceptions of modern communication and rebirth. Moths are found in every part of the globe except Antarctica and the oceans. They represent flight and our modern ability to travel great distances and experience other cultural worlds. At the same time the moth’s attraction to light and its inability to read allude to our historical and contemporary failures to recognize and embrace the basic commonalities and frailties that bind us together as a species. The patterns in the background had their genesis in language. They are a compilation of cuneiform, java script, runic script and the binary code, a blend of modern and ancient. Despite awareness of language and culture we have failed to heed the lessons and warnings left for us proving anew with human solipsism, history is prologue. We are ‘drawn in’ and self destruct becoming fodder when the cycle begins again.
